Introduction Level (Figures 1-4)

1. Basic

Notes & Tips

  • Heel lead - put heel on floor first and roll foot from heel to toe
  • Can be slightly curved in an anti-clockwise direction
  • Knees are flexed

Rhythm & Cues

  • T, A, N, G, O (All the intro level figures follow this rhythm)
  • Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow

Steps

  1. Slowly step forward with the left foot
  2. Slowly step forward with the right foot brushing past the left foot
  3. Quickly step forward with the left foot brushing past the right foot
  4. Quickly step diagonally forwards with the right foot so that it is to the side of the left foot (feet should be at hip width)
  5. Slowly drag the inside edge of the left foot together with the right foot

2. Promenade Left Turn

Notes & Tips

  • Lead with a strong frame

Rhythm & Cues

  • Slow, slow-ah, quick, quick, slow

Steps

  1. Step sideways with the left foot pointing at a 45-degree angle
  2. Step sideways across the left foot and slightly forward with the right foot also at an angle. Keep the shoulders facing the lady and keep the hips facing the lady as best as possible
  3. Rotate the upper body 45 degrees so that the shoulders and hips are facing in the direction of the right foot
  4. Finish with Tango close
    1. Step forward with the left foot brushing past the right foot
    2. Quickly step diagonally with the right foot so that it is to the side of the left foot
    3. Slowly drag the left foot together with the right foot

3. Single Corte

Notes & Tips

  • Lead with a strong frame

Rhythm & Cues

  • Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow

Steps

  1. Step backward and slightly to the left with the left foot and turned out an almost 90-degree angle. Whilst shifting weight onto the left foot, point and drag the right foot slightly and have the right knee straight
  2. Pick up the right foot and take a small heel-lead step forward with the right foot
  3. Finish with Tango close
    1. Quickly step forward with the left foot brushing past the right foot
    2. Quickly step diagonally with the right foot so it is to the side of the left foot
    3. Slowly drag the left foot together with the right foot

4. Open Fan

Notes & Tips

  • Promenade left turn, fan, Promenade left turn
  • Lead with the left hand and arm
  • One fan in total for the male

Steps

  1. Promenade Left Turn
    1. Step sideways with the left foot pointing at a 45-degree angle
    2. Step sideways across the left foot and slightly forward with the right foot also at an angle. Keep the shoulders facing the lady and keep the hips facing the lady as best as possible
    3. Rotate the upper body 45 degrees so that the shoulders and hips are in facing in the direction of the right foot
    4. Tango close
      1. Step forward with the left foot brushing past the right foot whilst bringing the left hand down so that it is facing the floor and opening up the right arm. Push forward with the left hand as well to help with the lead
      2. Quickly step diagonally with the right foot so it is to the side of the left foot
      3. Slowly drag the left foot together with the right foot
  2. Fan
    1. Step forward with the left foot
    2. Tuck in the right foot behind the left foot whilst swivelling on the left foot so that the body is facing the partner and the feet make a ‘V’ (Fan). The left hand is brought back up and pulls slightly backwards during the swivel.
    3. The hands are brought back into normal pose
  3. Second Promenade Left
    1. Step sideways across the left foot and slightly forward with the right foot at a 45-degree angle. Keep the shoulders facing the lady and keep the hips facing the lady as best as possible
    2. Rotate the upper body 45 degrees so that the shoulders and hips are in facing in the direction of the right foot
    3. Finish with Tango close
