Introduction Level (Figures 1-4)
1. Left Box Turn
Notes & Tips
- Can turn or do it straight, turning is preferable
- Bend knees at start and after every second step
- Remember rise and fall
Rhythm & Cues
- 1-2-3, 1-2-3 (same rhythm with all steps)
- Forward, side, together, backwards, side, together
Steps
- Step straight forward with the left foot (heel lead)
- Brush the right foot past the left foot and take a bigger sidestep whilst rotating the body a quarter turn (roughly 45 degrees)
- Bring the left foot together with the right foot (drag the ball of the left foot on the floor)
- Step straight backward with the right foot
- Brush the left foot past the right foot and take a smaller sidestep whilst rotating the body a quarter turn
- Bring the right foot together with the left foot (drag the ball of the right foot on the floor)
2. Box Underarm Turn

- Two Left Box Turn figures with an underarm turn in between.
Rhythm & Cues
- 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3
Steps
- First Left Box Turn
- Step straight forward with the left foot
- Brush the right foot past the left foot and take a bigger sidestep whilst rotating the body a quarter turn
- Bring the left foot together with the right foot (drag the ball of the left foot on the floor)
- Step straight backward with the right foot whilst lifting the left arm up and releasing the right hand putting it behind the back
- Bring the left foot in towards the right foot and then take smaller sideways step with the left foot (no body rotation)
- Bring the right foot together with the left foot
- Second Left Box Turn
- Step straight forward with the left foot
- Brush the right foot past the left foot and take a bigger sidestep whilst rotating the body to meet the lady
- Bring the left foot together with the right foot and go back into standard dance pose (bring left hand back down and put right hand under lady’s shoulder blade)
- Step straight backward with the right foot
- Brush the left foot past the right foot and take a smaller sidestep whilst rotating the body a quarter turn
- Bring the right foot together with the left foot (drag the ball of the right foot on the floor)
3. Progressive
Notes & Tips
- Progress forward with frame
- Both male and female should have forward poise

Steps
- First progressive (the same as the first three steps of the Left Box Turn figure without any rotation)
- Step straight forward with the left foot
- Bring the right foot in towards the left foot and step sideways with the right foot so it is to the side of the left foot
- Bring left foot together with the right foot
- Second progressive
- Progress forward with frame and step straight forward with the right foot
- Bring the left foot in towards the right foot and step sideways with the left foot so it is to the side of the right foot
- Bring right foot together with the left foot
- Third progressive (is optional but normally do a third progressive when doing freestyle dancing)
- Step straight forward with the left foot
- Bring the right foot in towards the left foot and step sideways with the right foot so it is to the side of the left foot
- Bring left foot together with the right foot
- Finish off with the last three steps of the Left Box Turn figure (rotation is optional but preferable)
- Step straight backward with the right foot
- Brush the left foot past the right foot and take a smaller sidestep whilst rotating the body a quarter turn
- Bring the right foot together with the left foot (drag the ball of the right foot on the floor)
4. Balance Side Step
Notes & Tips
- Flex in the knees and strong frame
- Drag is for several over three beats
- Only the feet that should turn out, the torso should remain straight
- The Balance Step Side figure can be done after any of the other figures
Rhythm & Cues
- 1-2-3, 1-2-3
Steps
- Flex in the knees and slide sideways with the left foot with it pointed slightly out
- Point the right foot out and drag the toes of right foot in towards the left foot so that the right foot sits just behind the left foot in a slight v position (weight stays on the left foot)
- Flex in the knees and slide sideways with the right foot
- Drag the toes of left foot in towards the right foot so that the left foot sits just behind the right foot in a slight v position
