Overview
The purpose of Boogie Feet is to help with learning how to dance socially. It is not a replacement for taking private dance lessons but hopefully serves as an assistive refidex of sorts for all things social dance.
Dances
There are many dances, each with different steps and style. For each dance, there are an associated set of figures that are a series of steps. Figures can be thought of as the building blocks of the dance. They are dynamically composed together throughout the duration of a song.
Determining which figure to execute at any given time often depends on several variables. Although, for social dancing, the most critical factor is choosing a figure that allows for navigating around the room without interfering with other dancers on the dance floor.
Each dance has a dedicated page that provides simple animations and notes for each figure. See the available dances below or use the sidebar.
Dance Frame
Dance frame is fundamental aspect that applies to all dances. It is the blueprint of how both partners are “connected”. The majority of the dances adhere to the traditional dance frame. See the available dance frames below or use the sidebar.
Dance & Music
Music can be thought of as the other side of the coin to dance. Without it, dancing would be pretty boring and awkward. Music, or more specifically songs, dictate the tempo of the dance and can also influence the figure that is chosen in a given moment of time.
The theory of dance shares a lot of similarities with the theory of music. Whilst it is not critical to understand every intricacy of dance theory, an understanding of the fundamentals can help greatly in understanding and picking up dance figures. Other benefits include but are not limited to, being able to choose the right dance for any music that is playing as well as keeping in time with the music.
